Ducky Crossing is a "spot the difference" game using aesthetics from Animal Crossing: New Horizons. There are five levels in total which range from 3-7 differences each (clued by the card value asked by one of the ducks in Go Fish). Each level has a unique style of difference, and by clicking on every difference, we can proceed to the next round.
Level | Card / Number | Difference Type |
---|---|---|
1 | 3 | Missing fish |
2 | 4 | Different species |
3 | 5 | Reflected horizontally |
4 | 6 | Color hue shifted by 180° |
5 | 7 | Difference in size |
As with other Playmate games, the best strategy is by playing with more teammates! Splitting up the screen so that each person looks at a different section is usually effective.
To complete the game, we’ve also found it helpful to go through every fish systematically, rather than waiting for differences to pop out when scanning. This strategy is less useful if you are going for a high score.
The initial version of Ducky Crossing involved an extra step of looking up the name of the fish and indexing the card number to extract a phrase. However, playtesters found this tedious and wanted to focus on the game itself, so we decided to drop the extraction step.
While this is one of the least "puzzly" games in the hunt, we decided it was a reasonable difficulty to start with, and one that scaled nicely with teammates. We hope it was a fun surprise (and a fun break from puzzling)!
